The Shire of Bruce Rock, in the central wheatbelt of Western Australia, is 240 kilometres east of Perth, the state capitol.
The Shire incorporates the towns of Ardath, Babakin, Bruce Rock, Kwolyin and Shackleton within an area of 2722 square kilometres and has a population of about 1300 people of whom 700 live in the towns.
Industry in the district is described within the Shire logo which embodies Sheep,Grain ,Machinery and Pasture. Light Industry is also represented in the form of Cabinet Making, Motor Body Building and Light Engineering along with a full range of Service Industries including Electrical, Plumbing, Transport and all the trades which make up the Building Industry.
Bruce Rock boasts some of the finest facilities for residents and tourists alike, unrivalled even in metropolitan suburbs. A first class Museum housed in a heritage listed building. A Machinery and Motor Museum. The fully serviced Caravan Park including comfortable back packer huts ajoins the Aquatic Centre with its 33 metre heated swimming pool. One of the best Recreation Centres in the state has a fully serviced Function Centre, Gymnasium, indoor and outdoor Basket Ball Courts, Squash Courts, Netball Court, Hockey Field, indoor and outdoor Cricket, Tennis Courts and the EDFL Bruce Rock Magpies night-lit Football Ground with a grassed surface which is a pleasure to play on.
The Equestrian Centre caters for horse lovers and a Rifle Range and a Golf Club are located close to town.
What’s more, there is no crime, no traffic problems, no stress, low unemployment and high community spirit.
A 500 seat Amphitheatre had a very successful opening in October 2001 with about 1400 people attending. The finished product is a credit to Shire staff and building contracters, all of whom reside in the district.
Recently, for the second time, the Shire offerred a number of building blocks free except for transfer and associated costs. The response was enormous with interest coming from all over Australia and even inquiries from England and New Zealand.
A range of services is provided by the Shire which enhances living in the area.
An elected council of 11 local people is keeping the Shire abreast of the times and ensures that the district is as up to the minute as funding will allow.
The day to day running of the Shire is left to a very able CEO and small efficient staff.
